Brian's Legacy

The Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund was launched in 1970 by the family, friends and NFL teammates of Brian Piccolo, the Chicago Bears running back who died from a rare form of cancer, embryonal cell carcinoma, at age 26. The Piccolo Fund has chosen to focus priority on women's cancers since 1991, committing over $7 million for cancer research initiatives at Rush University Medical Center.  These investments in breast, ovarian and lung cancer research have resulted in diagnostic tools that detect cancer earlier, more targeted treatments, and chemotherapy protocols that are better tolerated by patients.  Together with Bears Care, the Piccolo Fund remains committed to Brian's legacy and advancing the fight against cancer.

In the spirit of our shared commitment and in recognizing the 50th anniversary of Brian Piccolo's passing, we ask for your support of Bears Care's All Four One campaign.  Brian had a profound impact on his teammates, Bears fans and his community and we encourage you to be a part of the next chapter in Brian's story.  Your contribution to Bears Care will ultimately benefit the Piccolo Fund and help establish a systematic approach to breast cancer screening that determines the type, frequency and follow-up necessary to improve early detection especially for young women at high risk for the disease.  Donors who are able to contribute at the $60 level and above will receive a limited edition, 2020 reprint of A Short Season, a biography of Brian's life written by Jeannie Morris, which portrays the sweetness of Brian Piccolo himself, beyond the game and his battle with cancer.
